The frugal blogosphere is growing by leaps and bounds. KimC at Frugal Hacks added over 30 new members to the blogroll just this week! Could it be that our consumerist culture is changing for the better, one financially responsible blogger at a time? How I would love to see a world where all people strive to be better stewards of our precious, limited resources!Am I being overly optimistic, or is frugal living really "taking off"? Thoughts? Please share!

Tough to say. The voluntary simplicity movement is quite old for instance. It even got coopted and now you can buy glossy magazines telling you how not to spend money. I think a bigger driver is that blogging is becoming more popular. All this web 2.0 stuff :-)
I think with the price of gas and everything that people are looking for ways to save money. Also many women are seeing that it is better to stay home with the kids and slow down.
I'm not sure if there is a shift quite yet. Although if the recession is coming like some analyst are saying, then it's very possible we'll see a forced shift of people becoming more frugal. However, in my current area the restaurants are packed with people on a nightly basis...so it hasn't changed too much yet.
I'm not sure if it's a frugal shift, or just the fact that those who have been frugal are just now starting to blog about it. Some of us (ME) live in neighborhoods where our neighbors wouldn't be caught dead at a thrift shop, so by talking with others online, we get a feeling of community that we might not get IRL.
