Earlier today, retailers nationwide reported their weakest January results in almost forty years. According to the New York Times, “The sales figures made it clear that consumers wrestling with high gas and food prices, a slumping housing market, an escalating credit crisis and a weakening job market retrenched further, buying mostly necessities even when redeeming their holiday gift cards.”
As our economy continues to spiral downward, more and more Americans are adopting frugal habits. The Frugal Hacks blogroll has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few months. Popular news websites like Yahoo and CNN.com frequently feature articles on such topics as reducing energy costs in the home, paying down large amounts of debt, and reducing every-day expenditures by making lifestyle changes.
I feel terrible for those among us who are suffering financially during these difficult times. I do, however, see a light at the end of the tunnel. great post!
