We are a disciplined family, but having an ole-fashioned line and item budget caused me way too much stress. I have tried and tried setting up budgets for us. Doing all the things you listed and we have failed them all until I started really using coupons, only buying stuff on sale and doing without. It has helped us stay closer to our budget than we ever have been in 18 years. One of these days we&#39;ll be consistently staying within it. I have found all the eating out, buying sodas, candy bars, stuff like that is what really blows a budget for us.
